"Acid Town, Vol 2" by Kyugo

"Acid Town, Vol 2" by Kyugo continues to be a gritty and interesting read. If you love "Banana Fish" by Akimi Yoshida, then this is a must-read. A dark story with a yakuza setting, romantic BL vibes and a hero with a tragic past and something important to protect. It hits me right in the heart. Synopsis: In a run-down city beset with poverty and gangs, survival is a daily struggle for Yuki and his best friend Tetsu. In a desperate attempt to pay for Yuki's brother's hospitalization, the two of them get caught trying to break into a yakuza vault. But the gang's young boss, Kazutaka Hyoudo, takes an interest in Yuki and they strike a deal: Hyoudo is willing to take care of the hospital bills— for a price. A weekly visit to the Seidoukai office doesn't seem like much to pay, but the boys' connection to the criminal group has already begun to draw the wrong kind of attention. When a shady, malicious figure from Yuki's past reappears in h...

"When We Shout for Love, Vol 3" by Yuka Kitagawa

The "When We Shout for Love" series by Yuka Kitagawa is a wholesome and satisfying read. It's about friendship, empowerment, and about being passionate about the things you like. This is a read for everyone that likes stories about fandoms. Especially if you like when fans meet their idols! I flew through this series, and couldn't get the next volume fast enough. Cute, adorable, and fast-paced with reliable characters. I loved the growth Mayuko go through, the music that inspires her, and the fanciable Ohba-kun for his support and patience as Mayuko struggles with her anxiety. It was nice to read a story with no miscommunications but with positive messages about not caring about other people looking at you, and daring to do the things you love. But I'm sad now because volume 3 was the last in the series. One thing is sure, I will check out the author's other works!

"When We Shout for Love, Vol 2" by Yuka Kitagawa

AHH ”When We Shout for Love, Vol 2” by Yuka Kitagawa is so cute! Every page is so nicely drawn, and the story pulls you right in! This is a read for everyone that likes stories about fandoms. Mayuko finds the courage to ask Ohba-kun to a KBF47 concert, and he agrees! Next follows cute scenes of Mayuko being grateful for her friend, Ohba-kun, and the two friends having the time of their life as fans at the concert! A new character was introduced too, and this is making me very excited to see what happens next. Mayuko and Ohba-kun split up for a second, and Ohba-kun runs into their favourite idol Zono-chan, and help her find back on stage. I sense trouble in the future... the way Ohba-kun watch Zono-chan is the same way he watches Mayuko. A bit of a glassy-eyed admiration. Yikes! I'm onto the next book, right away!

”When We Shout for Love, Vol 1” by Yuka Kitagawa

I am still one big smile after reading ”When We Shout for Love Vol 1” by Yuka Kitagawa. It is such a happy and positive read! Mayuko struggles with social anxiety and prefers to be in her cocoon at home. Her ray of light is her favourite girl group, KBF47. Their songs are the soundtrack about her life and the life she wished she had - the kind of life where she's not scared of what other people think of her. Ohba-kun, our male main character, is assumed to be a thug, but by chance, Mayuko learns that they have a thing in common – they are both fans of KBF47. But no one at school understands their new friendship, questioning why these two would even spend time together. Mayuko wants to change herself so people will get a different opinion, and no longer think that it is strange that Ohba-kun is by her side. I need to gush about how good a guy Ohba-kun is! Ohba-kun is the polar opposite of Mayuko, but the BEST friend, and as Mayuko decides to begin her change by entering an...

”There Are Things I Can't Tell You” by Edako Mofumofu

”There Are Things I Can't Tell You” by Edako Mofumofu is a sweet coming of age story about unrequited love. Kyousuke is bright and popular, while Kasumi is a clumsy outsider, but the two very different boys become fast best friends in elementary school after Kyousuke sees Kasumi hanging a note with a wish onto the Wish Tree in the school library with the words ”I hope to marry someone I love and live happily ever after”. The theme in the story is ”What is happiness?”. The story is told from both Kasumi and Kyosuke's point of view - from elementary school boys to now 27 years old men that are trying to figure out what love and happiness is. I really liked that. It made me feel connected to the two men that come from different homes and have different demons that are following each of them into their adulthood. I hope there will be a book two because this was a great beginning.

”Lovely Muco!, Vol 1” by Takayuki Mizushina

”Lovely Muco!, Vol 1” by Takayuki Mizushina is a read full of giggles. Any pet lover will enjoy getting an insight into Muco's thoughts about her life with her much-beloved owner, Mr. Komatsu. Her thoughts are very much dog, and in the beginning, it's difficult to understand what Muco's obsessions with her shiny nose and chewing her blanket are all about, but as the pages turn, you get a pretty clear idea of how much this dog just want to help Mr. Komatsu and how much she loves him. Perhaps you might even get inspiration on how to understand your pet? I love the stories about their daily life in the glass art studio in the mountains. Muco brings lots of joy and entertainment every day. I love especially when Mr. Komatsu misunderstands her needs. This is a cute, relaxing, and full of-giggles read. Just what I needed.

”Wolf Girl And Black Prince, Vol 1” by Ayuko Hatta

”Wolf Girl And Black Prince, Vol 1” by Ayuko Hatta is a hilarious romantic comedy about Erika (The wolf girl) who cried too many times that she has a boyfriend – when she actually doesn't. Her friends think she's a liar, and scared of being left out in the cold, Erika takes a picture of a random hot guy in the street. If only she had known that they know him already because he goes to her school! The disaster feeling is strong when Erika is almost caught in her lies, but Sata, the guy, listens to her pleas about him becoming her fake boyfriend. He's a nice guy and agrees - all she has to do is be at his beck and call. His own personal slave dog. Turns out he's a wolf in sheep's clothing! Now, now, before anyone goes complaining that this guy is evil and mistreating her, just remember that Erika could stop this farce at any time by telling the truth to her friends. She doesn't and I think for sure there's going to be an important lesson to be learned he...

”How To Grill Our Love, Vol 1” by Shiori Hanatsuka

”How To Grill Our Love, Vol 1” by Shiori Hanatsuka is a love slow-paced, heartwarming slice-of-life and full of delicious-looking drawings. I really want bbq ribs now! Fans of Yuru Camp and any cooking show/manga will enjoy this story. Kenta is on the brink of giving up on finding love. The last three dates have ghosted him, but then he meets Chihiro. Nervous he ends up bringing her to his favorite place – the local yakiniku place, where he tells all about his love of grilling meat. It's nerdy and he's embarrassed, but Chihiro likes his passion, and in return, they create together a safe place, where they can lose their masks, and finally be themself with someone else. But their love story is over too soon when Kenta is getting a job offer which means he has to move to another city. When Chihiro hears of this, she proposes marriage, and so begins their adventure of happily-ever-after love and exciting food adventures by the grill. I can never really explain in words how...

”Milk & Mocha Comics Collection - Our Little Happiness” by Melani Sie

”Milk & Mocha Comics Collection - Our Little Happiness” by Melani Sie is a heartwarming collection about the daily life of two bears and their dino pet. The theme of the stories centers around daily life happiness. I did not know the author beforehand, but I do like once in a while, to read comics that are short and on point – all meant to make you smile or learn about love and connections to other people. The limited to no text in the comics makes it a read that everyone should be able to enjoy. The pictures leave room for thinking and automatically make you slow down when reading. To me, this is a plus, because it's really relaxing. Just what I hope for from a read like this. It was full of cute and heartwarming stories and I was a bit surprised to find myself giggling throughout the read, because of the different natures of the bears. One is laidback, the other has a temper. They do things differently, and with a book that begins with an introduction that asks ”What is...

”The Yakuza's Bias, Vol 1” by Teki Yatsuda

I was howling and guffawing my way through ”The Yakuza's Bias, Vol 1” by Teki Yatsuda. What a clever and brilliant way of showing the true (and scary!) powers only true fans possesses! In masses, fans are scary! And like this gag manga, it doesn't feel like the underworld and the honor codex of the Yakuza is far of from any fanbase, really! Ken Kanashiro is a hardboiled yakuza guy who has earned the right to call himself second-in-command in the Washio Clan. He has been through many battles and has the scars to prove it. When the daughter of the president drags him along to a K-pop concert, his heart is moved in ways he never imagined could happen, and a new world has opened for him. Now, he's Jun's biggest fan! A role he doesn't take lightly. Smitten like a new recruit on his first job, Ken plunges into fandom with the solemnity and passion only a true man who walks the way of the yakuza could muster. Honestly, watching the daughter of the president draggin...

”After the Rain, Vol 1” by Jun Mayuzuki

”After the Rain, Vol 1” by Jun Mayuzuki is a lovely, slow-building slice-of-life about living in the now, but also about moving forward. Tachibana is 17 years old and has a crush on her 45- year old manager at her workplace. There is nothing about this guy that screams a hunk or admirable or anything. He's a middle-aged man who has a shitty job, he's a divorcee, and at that point in life where everything is moving in slow-motion - in particular himself. He's most likely dealing with a midlife crisis. What she sees in him is unknown, but we know that Tachibana is going through a life crisis herself too. We have other characters that support the theme of standing still in life. I love when a story explores a theme in multiple ways. It makes you feel closer to the characters and their world. I would say that this is a book full of mood. There were whole pages where you had no text to support you, yet the feelings and thoughts of the characters were clear and moving. I ...

"Acid Town, Vol 1" by Kyugo

"Acid Town, Vol 1" by Kyugo. In a city where lawlessness rules, Yuki and his best friend Tetsu attempt to rob the headquarters of the local Seidoukai in order to steal money to pay for Yuki's little brother's hospital bill. The mission is a failure but piques the interest of mob boss Kazutaka Hyodo. He offers Yuki a deal; come to visit him once a week, and he'll take care of his brother's fees. Yuki accepts this arrangement without question, and so makes his first visit... The synopsis from the publisher makes it sounds much dirtier than it actually is. If you are looking for smut, this is not the book for you. Are you looking for a mafia story with hardships, politics, the ultimate risk of losing what's important to you, and the bonds created with those in the mafia, this is for you. An another group is trying to win ground and is doing the best they can to provoke the mob boss, Kazutaka. Tetsu, who is in love with Yuki, can only look on from the o...
